How it's used
A 14" salmon slicer without Grantons is typically used similarly to a traditional slicing or carving knife, albeit with a longer and more flexible blade specifically designed for slicing large fish like salmon. Here are some common ways a 14" salmon slicer can be used:
-
Filleting Large Fish: A salmon slicer's long and flexible blade is ideal for filleting large fish such as salmon. The length allows for smooth strokes along the fish's body, facilitating precise cuts to remove fillets.
-
Slicing Salmon Steaks: A salmon slicer can be used to cut salmon into steaks or portions. The long, thin blade helps achieve uniform slices for cooking or serving.
-
Removing Skin: The thin and flexible blade effectively removes skin from salmon fillets. The length of the blade allows for controlled and precise movements.
-
Slicing Other Large Pieces of Meat: Aside from salmon, a 14" slicer can also be used to slice other large pieces of meat, such as roast beef or turkey. The long blade enables smooth and even slicing without tearing the meat.
-
Carving Roasts: The salmon slicer can double as a carving knife for large roasts, making it a versatile tool for outdoor cooking and entertaining.
When using a 14" salmon slicer, it's important to use controlled and deliberate movements to ensure clean and precise cuts. The flexibility of the blade allows for maneuverability around bones and other obstacles when filleting or slicing. Additionally, maintaining the sharpness of the blade through regular honing and sharpening is essential for optimal performance.
